Northwest Namibia, the Caprivi Strip, is experiencing severe flooding, caused by continues, heavy rain. The Chobe, Kavango and Zambezi rivers have burst their banks and flooded the area, destroying over 20.000 buildings and dwellings, leaving thousands of families homeless. Schools and clinics had to be closed or were completely destroyed. The ecology and harvests in the region are heavily affected.

This is the worst flood in 40 years and it affected the countries of Angola, Botswana, Zambia, and Mozambique as well. Countless roads and bridges were destroyed, entire villages were cut off and can only be reached by boat or helicopter. It is estimated that about 500.000 people are affected and the majority has been moved to temporary camps and is trying to cope under very difficult circumstances. Food supply is running short, and food security is heavily threatened.

Helping Hands Africa, in collaboration with the German based NGO Humedica, is assisting 2.000 families with the most needed items like, water canisters, water disinfection tablets, blankets, mosquito nets etc, as well as supplying an emergency food supply to the most needy.
